| Dear Fellow Traveler:
In July of 2012, we will be traveling to
Europe to visit what I call the "Places of Memory" having to
do with World War II and the Holocaust. We will not only
explore the unique and vibrant culture of four major
European cities, but we will also take a journey to the past
, specifically the years 1933-1945, in each place. From the
inception of the Final Solution in a secret meeting in the
Wannsee House outside of Berlin to the Warsaw ghetto,
Treblinka, Auschwitz, and Theresienstadt, you will visit
places that are steeped in memories of the past with lessons
waiting for those of us in the present.
We are planning this trip now to allow for
people to plan their trip, organize funding, and do some
personal study before embarking on this tour. Anyone in the
country is welcome to join this tour, so even if you are not
in North Carolina, we can find a way for you to join! I hope
you join me for this journey that whose purpose is to take
you from memory to action, the call of the Committee on
Conscience from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
Please contact me with any specific questions
at
lschaefer@wsfcs.k12.nc.us and I hope to travel with you
in 2012.
